There are one or two freeware UML apps, but tbh the one you want to know is IBM's Rational Rose system, which is kind of the de facto industry standard. Most UML is theoretical or doable on paper though anyway - you don't really need any software for that. Get yourself Object Oriented Systems Analysis & Design with UML - I have this book myself, and what it doesn't explain probably isn't worth knowing. (BTW - if you buy it via the link I've just given you, the commission goes to help a biker mate of mine who's recovering from an almost fatal accident, at no extra charge to you)
