Numpty@recruitment consultancy emails me with "missing child"+pic type chain mail.
sigh, more spam thinks I.
Then I notice he's used the TO: field and there's another 2988 folks email addresses there as well (I counted 'em! well cut'n'paste email into editor and see linecount)
Oops, can anyone say Data Protection act?
Polite / helpful email back to him pointing out his error re data protection act & advise use of BCC: field from now on.
Terse response from him of " I guess I'm just a soft old gullible father of 4 and not a computer expert. I apologise."
Ah, this sets defcon 1 to the Greg's Annoyed System as this chap's used his companies email address and shows not one whiff of a clue as to what he's just done.
Ring the Information Commissioner's helpline on what to do to report / fix errant company procedures re data protection breaches, they say to fill in the online form & submit the email as evidence (they assure me I'll not be committing a Data Protection Act breach in turn by sending them the email missing child spam with the TO: list of emails :). Start to do this but their website barfs with "not authorised" upon clicking the "add document button". Darn think I, let's try it in IE just in case. Nope, same result.
Ring their helpline again, get the same woman, who tells me they are & have been having a bit of a problem with their IT systems (**1), and gives me a temporary email address to send the complaint & attached evidence.
I say "So I send that then you'll send me an email confirmation?"
her verbatim response "You'd like to think so." caused much tittering in Woking.
(I resisted asking how to raise a complaint against the complaints procedure as she was already having a bad day :)
And it's only 11 o'clock! Wonder what else fun the world can bring today...
**1 it must be catching; rang the AA this morning to get them to un-cancel my car insurance policy as they'd not received the proof of no claims bonus. The reminder letter received 06-oct (dated 30-sep) said that they'd cancel it if proof not received by ... 06-oct, bit unfair thinks I! Poor woman at end of phone said that they'd not be cancelling policies for non reception of proof of NCBs due to several postal strikes, but that she couldn't do anything more as their "systems were down" (probably terminal depression :)
