Alot of bluetooth stacks offer a virtual serial port, must like the IrCOMM extention of IRDA Ir DATA standard did for infrared. Of course not having to line the damn devices up is way cooler and I can chat and send SMS surrepticiously in meetings using my Palm, my mobile stays in my pocket and quiet and innocent-like :) Coolest thing is the guy below me with his bluetooth Palm, we can scribble pictures using the bluetooth whiteboard!
The Nokia software that comes with the 6310i is actually quite good however, it will only work with the bluetooth stack supplied with their own PCMCIA card. All my attempts to make it work with my 3Com card have met with failure. You can still use IR though, or buy an outrageously priced Nokia data cable. I partly blame Nokia for this, and muchly blame M$ for the lack of a standard bluetooth stack in Windows to which everybody can write compaitble software. Boo hiss! Bill Gates!
Yup, we're getting that situation here. I can only intermittantly get the Ericsson phone manager & text software to talk to the T68 phone over the USB bluetooth module (an MSI thing from Scan, 2 for 45 quids which seemed a bargain)
mindygoth brought the USB Memory Stick for her Clie, and she's also having problems getting the syncing to work correctly.
the perils of early adopting any technology I guess...
I've got the Tungsten to sync over bluetooth but have changed my laptops bluetooth setup and can't see why it won't work at present :-/ I've not seriously looked at it though, but muttered at it, its probably something obvious.
