personal : burried my nan yesterday. Roman Catholic churches, whilst impressive architecture etc throughout the ages, are DULL places. And all that bollocks about "forgiving our sins" "dying for your sins" "born with original sin" etc. I remember why I ditched all that control freak stuff as soon as I could think for myself ('fraid that took till age 17.). Also took a bit of time to visit the gravestone of my dads mum & dad (burried in their local village church) to say Hi. Haven't seen that plot for ages.

work : poor [livejournal.com profile] mindygoth being hassled by BT Satellite rubbish (apparently blocking port 135 which means her email talking to Exchange Server doesn't), her companies IS dept not helping, saying things like to use Terminal Services. Which is fine over a nice fast bit of copper, but when each keystroke or mouse movement has to go 37,000Km up to a geosynchronous satellite, then another 37,000Km back to a ground station before then taking the usual internet router hop skip and a dance means its unusable. more anger & frustration for her. Also being a girlie at the wrong time of the month means she is *not* enjoying it today,
Me, hopefully negotiating a months work of design & C/asm code for a little embedded project. fingers crossed, my poor company could do with the money else it's bankruptcy time.

IT : can I get two of my 4 VMware Win2Kpro clients to update from my VM Win2KAS SUSserver? No, I can't. no explanation why, they just refuse to pull down their remaining 4 critical updates. No help from the log file (yes, there are critical updates to pull down. No, we're not going to tell you why we haven't pulled them down). Wonder if I should use one of my MSDNs 2 phone support incidents to chase this one up?

Life : loathe it or ignore it, you can't like it...

What about [livejournal.com profile] mindygoth VPN-ing in to get around port 135 blocking?

Don't even mention the VPN - a thing not recommended over Satellite DSL anyway, but also something my IS dept don't appear to be able to get to work for me, although aparently it works wonderfully for the CEO of the company, who is also on Satellite.....

Threaten to forward all your email to Hotmail. They'll tell you that you can't do that "for security reasons", so tell them you need a VPN "for security reasons" *g*
