No, nothing to do with mofettes post to bad_sex :),
apparently a trojan that was living in my document & settings folder. HTF did it get there, I don't remember that one.
hardware firewall, MS patches (all bang up to date) & NAV2003 all intact & doing thair thang.

Doesn't seem to have modified anything in da registry & have no unexplained processes running, so...

officially giving up on DAT, am cleaning out the old tapes & throwing them away, and then to find a home for the DDS4 tape drive I paid a grand for a bit ago...

Wonder what to do next for backup - get a decent backup program & use the external firewire HDDs? Very tempting...
