Am fighting a loosing battle to catch up on the 4mth backlog of unread New Scientists (does that make them oldish scientists?)

In feedback, 6th Sept 2003, on the observation that Kansas is as flat as a pancake (it apparently is *flatter* than a pancake - kansas is f=0.9997 with pancakes at f=0.957 where f=1 is perfectly flat) :
"some readers may find the comparing of a pancake and Kansas to be analogous to the comparing of apples and oranges," the authors say. "we refer those readers to a 1995 publication by NASA's Scott Sandford, who used spectrographic techniques to do a comparison of apples and oranges"

I've read that 'apples and oranges' report, it's in the 'Best of AIR'...excellent piece of, uh, scientific investigation.

I NEED that apples/oranges thing. It's one of the MD's favourite phrases, I would just LOVE to give him a report on it.

And one on round-pegs-in-round-holes, if such a thing exists.

;-)
